Boys Soccer
Varsity: Central Valley 2, Merced 0
Varsity: Central Valley 1, Patterson 0
JV: Central Valley 3, Patterson 0
The Varsity Boys Soccer team continued their solid play with 2 crucial CCC wins over both Merced and Patterson. The Hawks have now won 8 in a row and finished up the regular season with an impressive overall record of 20-6-1, 11-1 in the CCC. These 2 wins, coupled with a Golden Valley tie to El Capitan on Friday, clinched the 23-24 CCC title for our boys soccer team (picture attached). Congrats to Coach Garcia and the boys on a great season so far. The Hawks will now anxiously await the release of the CIF SJS playoffs brackets which will be posted the on Wednesday, February 7th in the late afternoon. I will post the playoff information once it’s available. Also, congrats to our JV Boys Soccer team on a dominating season as they finished without a loss with a record of 21-0-3 overall, 10-0-1 in CCC. The JV Boys are also CCC Champs!
Girls Soccer
Varsity: Central Valley 1, Merced 0
The Varsity Girls Soccer team was faced with a must-win scenario on Friday and the Hawks delivered. The Lady Hawks fought their way to a 1-0 win over the Bears to give themselves a chance to make the playoffs. CV is now 7-3-1 in the CCC with one very important game remaining. The Hawks will travel to Patterson High on Tuesday to take on the Tigers. If the Hawks win or tie, they will qualify for the playoffs, but a CV loss would eliminate them. The top 3 teams from the CCC will qualify and the standings are currently very tight:
- Patterson 7-1-3 (24 points)
- Golden Valley 7-2-2 (23 points)
- Central Valley 7-3-1 (22 points)
- El Capitan 7-4-1 (22 points)
The Hawks can actually still win the league title, but can also be eliminated in certain scenarios. A CV win and a Golden Valley loss to Merced would mean that the Hawks are CCC Champs and the #1 seed. A CV loss would eliminate them because they would tie at 7-4-1 with El Capitan and the Gauchos swept the Hawks in head-to-head play (2-0). A CV win or tie would result in getting either the #2 or #3 seed which would clinch a playoff berth. Good luck to our girls on Tuesday night!
Girls Basketball
Varsity: Central Valley 42, Buhach Colony 29
The hard work payed off for our Varsity Girls Basketball team as they were able to pick up their first CCC win of the season with a solid 42-29 win over the Buhach Colony Thunder. With only 2 seniors on the current roster, the Hawks look to build off of this momentum and start to build towards success down the road. The WAC will be a good fit for our growing program.
