The Varsity Hawks have been busy to start the season and currently sit at 4-2-1 after their first round of games. On Monday night, the Hawks traveled the 99 South to face their old CCC foe, the Atwater Falcons. In this evenly matched contest, CV scored on a 1st half goal by Alejandro Garcia, but the Falcons did the same in the 1st half to even things up at 1-1. The 2nd half was a defensive battle and neither team could find the back of the net. The Hawks would settle for the 1-1 tie. Last night, the Hawks hit the road once again and played their best game of the young season. CV faced a playoff rival, McClatchy (Sacramento) and the Hawks did not disappoint. After a 1-1 first half, CV came out hot in the 2nd half. Despite playing a full man down for the final 30 minutes of the game (red card issued to CV), the Hawks put together a gutty effort and stormed past the Lions with 3 goals in the 2nd half to solidify the 4-2 win! CV goals came from Alejandro Garcia (3) and Ivan Cervantes (1), assisted by Tahte Yang, Anantah Sinvongxay, and Ivan Cervantes. The Hawks will continue the grind this Friday when they travel to Franklin High of Elk Grove in a rematch of last year’s CIF SJS first round playoff game (Hawks won last year’s game 3-1).

Varsity: Central Valley 1, Pitman 0
The Varsity Lady Hawks have a very young, but talented squad this season and look to be a factor in the WAC. The Hawks made the short trip to Turlock to take on the Pitman Pride, and CV was ready for the early season challenge. This is always a great matchup between two quality programs and the Hawks were able to secure the 1-0 win! Central Valley is now 2-0 to start the season and the schedule will pick up with several games on the horizon. The Hawks will next play in the Oakdale Tournament on December 6th and 7th with scheduled games against Ripon, Enochs, and Riverbank. Then next week, the Hawks will play Merced, Atwater, and will play in the Manteca Tournament on December 13th and 14th.

The Varsity Hawks (3-2) ran into some quality competition in their last couple of games and dropped both games. Even in defeat, the Hawks played a couple of tight contests and continue to play well overall. On Saturday, CV took on the defending D6 State Champions, Cornerstone Christian out of Antioch. The Hawks hung with the Cougars, but could not push it over the top. In defeat, the Hawks were once again led by Jace McLennon’s 12 points while Jellmar Mata kicked in 11 points. On Tuesday night, CV took the long drive to Los Banos to take on the Tigers. In a high scoring affair, the Hawks fell to the Tigers by the score of 80-71. The leaders for the Hawks were Jace McLennon (24 pts, 11 Rebs, 6 steals), Emmanuel Carranza (12 pts 8 Rebs), and David Gutierrez (9 pts).
